The Castle and the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese

Grinzane Cavour Castle stands in one of the most spectacular settings in the Langa, just 5 km from Alba. The imposing building, erected around a central tower dating back to the first half of the eleventh century, can be admired in all its original beauty following the restoration that began in 1960, in celebration of the first centenary of the Unification of Italy.

The Castle now houses the “Cavour” Regional Enoteca, the first to be set up in Piedmont in 1967.

This is a prestigious showcase for the very best Piedmontese wines and grappas, foremost amongst them being Barolo and Barbaresco.

The wines undergo a strict selection process before being displayed and placed on sale along with leading local food products.

In the Castle are also located the headquarters of “Order of the Knights of the Truffle and Wines of Alba” and other association related to wine ald local food producers.

The Order of the Knights of the Truffle and Wines of Alba”

On February 22th 1967, a Food and Wine Confraternity named “Order of the Knights of the Truffle and Wines of Alba” was formed in a small trattoria in Grinzane Cavour with the aim of relaunching and promoting the area’s good food and extraordinary wines.

The association’s twenty-one impartial and independent founders drew up statutes which still today state that the purpose of the Order is to protect and disseminate the genuine food, wines and other marvellous and unmistakable products of Alba and the Langhe throughout the world. Membership of the Order of the Knights of the Truffle and Wines of Alba has grown over the years.

The twenty-one Knights at the outset were all from or in any case from the area of Langhe. Over the years, Delegations have been set up in Switzerland, Hong Kong, New York, Napa Valley, Taiwan and now in Singapore.

The meetings  that the Order organizes during the year take place under the name of Chapters, during which food and wine topics are discussed and traditional dishes prepared according to authentic recipes and accompanied by the best wines selected by a scrupulous Tasting.

Since its foundation, the Chapters have been held in the historic Castle of Grinzane Cavour (Unesco Heritage since 2014) where the Order has its historical headquarters.
